Taryn Larock

Taryn has been a lifelong lover of the ocean and all things aquatic, and at the age of 4 decided to dedicate her life to protecting the sea and all its inhabitants when she saw footage of Captain Paul Watson and Brigitte Bardot defending Canadian Fur Seals, instead of watching the cartoons she was supposed to be viewing. Her childhood was spent reading Jacques Cousteau books, and learning everything she could about sharks and cetaceans. Today, she brings this lifelong passion for the Ocean to SeaSweepers, to envision and implement innovative solutions to address the complex global marine plastic pollution crisis.

As Chief Sustainability Officer of SeaSweepers LLC, Taryn brings 20 years of experience from non-profit, tech, finance and manufacturing sectors in the key areas of sustainability, sustainable product design, business development, supply chain development & management, and sustainable manufacturing. Taryn has the knowledge and network required to create, manage, and implement visionary solutions through networks, global supply chains, and innovative sustainable product design and manufacturing, to tackle the challenges of marine plastic pollution and create impactful solutions and end uses.

Taryn has held executive or board member positions within wildlife & habitat conservation non-profits, where she has helped develop and spearhead global conservation initiatives in collaboration with international governments & local organizations to drive meaningful change.

Taryn is the Founder and designer of the award-winning sustainable brand Sage Larock, which utilizes upcycled fishing nets & sustainable/ethical manufacturing practices, and has been featured in Wall Street Journal, Angeleno, and Modern Luxury publications. Taryn has also successfully partnered with several non-profits such as Sea Shepherd Conservation Society to create global innovative supply networks, and to design and manufacture their branded swimwear from plastics recovered from ocean clean-up missions, and Canopy Planet, to promote sustainable forest-friendly solutions for the garment industry. While sitting as board member & Chief Operating Officer of the non-profit I Stand With My Pack, Taryn worked to co-create and implement collaborative solutions for ocean conservation/anti-wildlife trafficking efforts with notable conservation groups including VetPaw Africa, Fin Free, Paul Hilton Sumatra, Wildlife Asia, Animal Hope & Wellness China, and the Humane Society in Puerto Rico, as well as to identify and maintain key strategic partnerships for funding & collaboration.

Taryn received her B.A. in Philosophy, focusing on phenomenology, logic, and non-human animal consciousness from the University of Colorado, and studied Entrepreneurship at UCLA. When not underwater, she can often be found speaking at ocean conservation and sustainability conferences, or taking foster pit bulls to the beach and looking for dolphins.
